17 Dec 11 – Patrick Carlin Biography
by Kim A. Blacklock

Patrick Carlin, brother of the late great Irish-American comedian George Carlin, receives some of the credit for why George stood out: “To my big brother Patrick, who was kind enough to teach me attitude;” George writes in the dedication of his book Brain Droppings. A product of Morningside Heights, Manhattan, Patrick, an exuberant lad, got bounced from school to school in the 30’s & 40’s, from Air Force base to base in the 50’s, got into sales – newspaper advertising, desert real estate, aluminum siding, and cars – Pontiacs, Fords, Volkswagens – in LA, stopped drinking in 1964, before moving on to Trinidad, Tobago, Vermont, and textile mills. But as a husband, he’s 56 years with his wife Marlene, father of 2 sons, older brother to a national treasure, and Patrick Carlin has held his ground, his integrity, his attitude, his writing, his witty observations, and his belief you must be who you are and love yourself. Author of the novel Highway 23: The Unrepentant, Patrick Carlin worked in television first as a researcher, then writing episodes for The George Carlin Show, with screenplays, TV pilots, and a library of short stories ready to be discovered. A Woodstock resident, Patrick can be heard regularly on Wednesdays with Greg Gattine in the Morning and Sundays at 8:55 am wrapping up the Doug Grunther Show on Radio Woodstock, WDST 100.1 FM. Patrick also has a weekly subscription television show “Carlin’s Corner” on Trends Research Institute’s “The Trends Journal.”

Wednesday Dec. 28th, 2011, at 8pm Patrick Carlin, as Special Guest, will take to the Bearsville Theater stage before PJ Walsh stars in “OVER THERE: Comedy Is His Best Weapon.”

“OVER THERE: Comedy Is His Best Weapon”

Illustrates the hardship and hilarity of PJ Walsh’s journey. As a screw-up kid, Walsh enlists never expecting to go to war. After three wars, a stint as Bill Clinton’s dental technician and a career in stand-up comedy, he discovers what matters in life as he faces mortality in the belly of a C-130 plane over Afghanistan.
